Quilted by Hand
Machine and hand piecing
Cotton and rayon fabric
27" x 31"
This quilt expresses my gratefulness for the bright,
shining colors of autumn, and for the bounty of nature.
I didn't want this quilt to be displayed only at
Thanksgiving, so I added fabric "shutters" that can be open
In the first photo, the shutters are open, revealing a
harvest fabric printed with pumpkins and autumn vegetables.
The second photo shows the same quilt with the shutters
closed, hiding the pumpkin fabric and revealing more of the turquoise
This quilt is dear to my heart because the
center is a log cabin square I made thirty years ago, as part of a hippie
blouse. The fabric is a little faded now, but it is brightened by an
antique mother-of-pearl button
in the center.
