I had meant to express the theme of Earth,
Water, Fire, and Air in this quilt.
It was to be an autumnal quilt, with leaves falling as the seasons
spiraled on.
But as I sewed, I came to see it as an
image of falling into the abyss.
To me, this piece expresses the
enticing vertigo felt in high places, the impulse to step out into
nothing, and our very great and instinctual fear of doing so. |
