This quilted spiral immortalizes a moment some years ago as I hunkered on the shore, washing dishes. This probably isn't even ecologically correct anymore!

Silk fabric, photo transfer onto cotton

The photo has been printed onto  fabric.  Tiny wedges of silk have been sewn on one at a time, starting with the first tiny triangle under my bum. The design spirals outward more pieces are sewn on.

Then the piece was quilted with machine-sewn serpentine stitch, which also spirals outward from the center.
